"RuPaul’s Drag Race" all-star Shangela is hitting the XL Cabaret for a special one-night of comedy and original songs when her alter ego, the pimp priestess Laquifa finally admits to "Halle Loosin’ It!" It’s more than just the title of the show Shangela exclaims. "If she hasn’t halle lost it yet...Laquifa is going to be loosin’ it on the XL stage." NYC...you’ve been warned!
"It’s all new material. All Laquifa." The comedian will be accompanied on the piano performing some of her original songs, including the debut of a brand new track called "Working Girl" which will be commercially available next week. "We’re gonna turn the party out on Friday night...and wherever Laquifa goes she turns up with the police!" Fortunately the New York City police share the same block on 42nd Street with The OUT NYC that is home to the XL Cabaret and Nightclub.
"With all those restraining orders now lifted," Shangela promised, "we will be having a really good time." A show fixture since her appearance in Season 2 of "RuPaul’s Drag Race," Shangela has been the only "Drag Race" contestant invited to return for another go round in Season 3, and was feasted upon by drag-zombies early on in the last season of the show.
With the upcoming highly anticipated "All-Stars" race about to start its engine, does Shangela have any expectations for a return to the runway? "I love all my sisters," she says of her drag contemporaries. "For them to have the opportunity to showcase their talents again for all the viewers is totally awesome." Don’t count Shangela out just yet. "I’ve appeared on the last three seasons of the show - you never know where I might turn up!"
Her Own All-Star
In the meantime the self-proclaimed "Debutantess of the Deep South" has been actively performing all across the nation as well as for our neighbors in the north. "I was just in Vancouver." The drag superstar has been making all the stops along Canada’s Pride circuit. Shangela has even taken her brand of drag comedy overseas having just returned from touring Dublin. Her real-life secret identity actor DJ Pierce has been also making a name for himself appearing in recurring roles on television series like "The Mentalist" on CBS and the peacock network’s "Community".
"RuPaul has given us such a great opportunity. I’ve been traveling on the road for the last two years." It’s been an amazing whirlwind between the music, the comedy and acting, Shangela is proving a true triple threat...with all the interchangeable parts and accessories.
Not bad at all for a two-time drag racer who didn’t make it past the finish line, but for one-night only is headlining on the New York City cabaret stage. "New York is in for a ho-ishly fun time!" HalleLoo!
