FREE YOUR INNER MASON: Saint at Large Presents Freemasons at Governors Island
Lord Cornbury would approve. What, you don’t know Lord Cornbury? Cornbury was an early British governor of New York, who enjoyed dressing in women’s clothing. He built a house on Governors Island that was called "The Smiling Garden." Now you see?
Lord Cornbury would love it that the Saint at Large is bringing the first major gay dance party to his "smiling garden"-and that Freemasons will be manning the decks. No wonder there’s a glass of bubbly on the invite.
Another tidbit: the original freemasons were skilled stonemasons of the 14th century-who recognized each other by secret signs. Hello? Sound familiar? Cruised anyone in public recently?
And furthermore, modern freemasons hold elaborate secret ceremonies. Pagan rituals, perhaps? Can we say kindred spirits?
Celebrate the end of Summer on The Beach @ Governors Island
If you have yet to avail yourself of the free ferry to Governors Island and while away an afternoon on the island’s 172 Arcadian acres, what better opportunity than this upcoming Sunday evening’s Saint at Large event to first experience the trapped-in-amber quality that is Governors Island.
First of all, getting to Governors Island could hardly be easier-and for this event, New York Water Taxi will be running their adorable checkerboard ferries every fifteen minutes from the Battery Maritime Building, which is right next door to the Staten Island Ferry terminal.
And once you’re on the ferry, look over your shoulder, honey-it’s the Emerald City. What’s not to love about a view like that?
Welcome to Oz, children!
On Governors Island, Water Taxi Beach faces Manhattan, which means a bird’s-eye view of Manhattan’s shimmering bright lights-while you’re dancing to the Freemasons. Welcome to Oz, children!
Fresh from his Pride Pier Dance triumph, DJ Corey Craig opens the evening with his signature sound of upbeat remixed house and disco classics. And thereafter, it’s all about the Freemasons.
Taking their name from a Brighton pub they frequent, Freemasons are the masterminds behind 2005’s "Love on My Mind." You know, the one that mixed Jackie Moore’s "This Time, Baby," with Tina’s "When the Heartache is Over." Now you remember? Did they work that track or what? And what about "Rain Down Love" from the summer of 2007? And last summer’s "When You Touch Me"-and how about Kelly Rowland’s "Work"? Face it, you know Freemasons; Freemasons been living in your bedroom.
The World’s Most Recognized Remix and Production Team
Currently one of the world’s most recognized remix and production teams, with an amazing four consecutive top 20 UK singles to their names, Freemasons have travelled the world, playing massive events-before making their NYC debut this upcoming Sunday.
Of course, these two wunderkind producers, James Wiltshire and Russell Small, also happen to have a Grammy nod for their work with Beyonce’s "Déjà vu," and have worked repeatedly with Beyonce, her sister Solange, as well as Kylie-and recently Whitney on her latest chart-topping hit "Million Dollar Bill."
If you’ve been jonesing for a reinvention of the fabled White Party Saint sound, and desirous for one last summer sunset on the beach, then get your booty on the boat-to Governors Island for the Saint at Large’s Freemasons final summer splash party. Ring in the Saint at Large’s 30th season with a glass of bubbly-and the ghost of Lord Cornbury smiling in his dress.
