XXX Boys :: Tristan Phoenix returns

BeBe Sweetbriar READ TIME: 5 MIN.

In mythology, the phoenix was a bird of great beauty that lived for centuries and rose intact from his own ashes, which is something of an apt description for Tristan Phoenix, a great beauty in his own right.

And like the mythical phoenix, he has once again risen, returning to the adult male industry after a three-year absence. Upon becoming a porn model in 2008, Phoenix quickly gained a reputation as the go-to-bottom with great scenes on various porn websites and the big studios like Falcon and Hot House Entertainment.

It was something of a mystery as to why this rising star disappeared from the porn industry in late 2009 after his highly publicized break-up with then-husband and fellow porn star Tristan Jaxx.

I had an opportunity to speak with the 26-year old actor about his sudden absence from the porn scene, what ignited his desire to get into the adult entertainment industry, his experience at being the lone gay teen in high school, and what does he hopes his future holds in the gay porn game.

Only gay in high school

BeBe: Tell us about your high school years in Napa, Calif., when you were the only out-gay teen in school, but also a jock.

Tristan Phoenix: Well, I went to a Catholic high school that was aggressively against the whole homosexual identity thing. I went through a lot of judgment, but most of the reactions I got from others, I brought upon myself. I was very loud and proud when I first came out, and I definitely got a reaction. That's for sure.

BeBe: What got you into the adult film industry?

Tristan Phoenix: I needed to express myself sexually. At that time (2008) I was doing a lot of editorial work in the mainstream world, and I wanted to live out my fantasies sexually. So I gave it a shot!

BeBe: Plenty of shots. Having filmed since 2008, you have amassed a good amount of scenes. Which one is the most memorable?

Tristan Phoenix: My favorite scenes were with Spencer Reed in 'Roll in the Hay,' and with Tristan Jaxx (ex-husband) in 'Porn Stars in Love.'

Rough time

BeBe: You mentioned you ex-husband, fellow porn star and now international DJ Tristan Jaxx, and it is no secret that you had a highly publicized marriage with him that ended in divorce. Did both of you being in the porn industry strain your union?

Tristan Phoenix: I would have to say no. It was never a problem to be faithful to one another at all. I think that being a porn star can lead some into other scenes, scenes that are very detrimental to a relationship, and that, I believe, is what breaks 'porn couples' up.

BeBe: Shortly after your divorce, you dropped out as a porn star and a go-go dancer. What were you doing those three years?

Tristan Phoenix: I put myself through a very rough time for a long period of time, but then I got my act together and started working full-time and painting again, which helped me out of the hole I was in.

Back in the game

BeBe: Now that you have returned to filming gay porn again, how does it feel to be back in the game?

Tristan Phoenix: It feels like I had never filmed before which, for me, is great. It's exciting again. I get butterflies in my stomach again and nervous in a good way. I'm having fun on set. I am definitely taking it slow, but I am getting there.

BeBe: Do you have a career goal?

Tristan Phoenix: I want to start my own editorial/adult men's magazine, as well as start a studio.

BeBe: What are your interests outside of the porn industry?

Tristan Phoenix: I want to get back into the design industry [he attended New York's famed Fashion Institute of Technology], which I am working at doing currently. I also bar tend and serve at a restaurant in Downtown San Francisco and San Carlos.
