Drop Dead Diva: The Complete Second Season
Lifetime’s series "Drop Dead Diva" has got to be one of the gayest shows on TV without having an over abundance of gay characters. However, the gay sensibility in season 2 of the series, which was just released on DVD), is a gay man’s dream.
First, Brooke Elliott’s Jane (who just happens to have the soul of a spoiled wannabe model) is extremely relatable as the person who doesn’t feel as though she fits in, but proves over and over that if you just love yourself everything (the job, the romance) falls into place.
Second, the awesome Margaret Cho, who plays Jane’s assistant Teri, wisely got much more screen time in the second season, and while you may be taken aback by a more subdued, professional Cho, she still manages to find times to bust out and show us the hilarious diva we all know and love.
Third, it helps immensely that creator Josh Berman regularly gives us fantasy sequences like Jane with shirtless hunks, as well as a cavalcade as fun guest stars. Paula Abdul drops by regularly, and the second season also saw such stars as Cybill Shepherd, Jake Pavelka, Vivica A. Fox, Robin Givens and Natasha Henstridge. Another stand-out is adorable Ben Feldman as Jane’s angel, Fred.
The 2nd season DVD includes all 13 episodes as well as three behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes and the fantastically fun Begin Again music video. It’s a great time to catch up on Season 2 since Season 3 kicks off June 19th.
