Roslyn Kind

Hearing Roslyn Kind sing is... how shall I put it? Well, to pardon my pun, it’s really a "one of a kind" experience. Her voice has clarity of tone, emotional resonance at all times and a purity of sound of remarkable standards. This quality got her started in 1969 with two phenomenal albums on the RCA label. Over the years, the multi-talented singer’s gifts have taken her to the Broadway stage, leading concert venues such as Lincoln Center and even Carnegie Hall, where she performed with Michael Feinstein in 2006. In 2008, she brought forth an acclaimed CD called "Come What May."

This simply sensational singer continues to bring her own very special magic to audiences, with performances in the very finest venues and nightclubs all over the globe. Roslyn Kind will be performing in San Diego at Anthology Nightclub on February 26th and getting back to her roots as a "Brooklynite" in April in a very special gala performance for The Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts. Here, for EDGE Media Network, Kind shares some special memories, why the music matters and "going home" again in April.

A great closing song

EDGE: The last time we spoke, it was right around your birthday in 2009 and now same scenario, just right around your birthday, three years later!

Roslyn Kind: Oh my God... (Laughter) Timing is everything.

EDGE: It’s good to hear your voice. Let’s start by talking about some of your more recent performances. I saw you online singing a song called "We Can Be Kind" where you were performing with a symphony. Please tell me about that beautiful song.

Roslyn Kind: That’s a David Friedman song. David Friedman out of New York, I loved it. It was so apropos for my name. I thought, "What a great closing song." I like to leave the audience with something to think about... something about us all getting together and making the world better.

EDGE: It’s beautifully done.

Roslyn Kind: That’s how I love to end my shows. When I do my full show, I usually close with that when I tour. In this world, sometimes everybody is so into themselves that they stop to think that everybody else has the same stuff going on. We have to have the understanding that we’re no different. We can all help each other by being kind to each other.
