The Dimming Of The Day

Anastasia Barzee has gained acclaim for her starring roles in "Urinetown," "Jekyll and Hyde" and "White Christmas" on Broadway. In her debut recording on Ghostlight Records, she holds the reins by choosing songs that offer a heartfelt connection.

As a singer and actress, Barzee's clarity, emotional delivery and sensuous and sublime voice really shine on "The Dimming of the Day." Be warned - this recording is not a collection of Broadway showstoppers. Anastasia Barzee has selected an extremely diverse set of 12 songs, which run the gamut of songwriters such as Paul Simon ("American Tune"), Kate Bush ("The Man with the Child in His Eyes"), Rufus Wainwright ("Dinner at Eight"), Rickie Lee Jones ("Company") along with several other esteemed composers. Barzee elaborates on this debut by saying, "These are songs I could not have truly understood in my twenties. I also wanted my album to be musically interesting. I didn't want ordinary arrangements of songs we've all heard a million times. I wanted to look at the music fresh."

She beautifully sets the tone for each song on this eclectic array of material. With a top-notch musical production by Matt Pierson as well as thoughtful and well-done arrangements by Gil Goldstein, "The Dimming of the Day" shines brilliant light on the talents of Anastasia Barzee.
